AMG launches SkyBeam wireless optical transmission system
New multi-beam technology - the only products in the market to combine auto-tracking with a four-beam system. The solution can operate either as free space air extenders for AMG's fibre optic transmission equipment or for standard Gigabit Ethernet Transmission - to bridge where no fibre exists. AMG Systems Ltd. announces the launch of a new series of multi-beam free space optical transmission solutions. SkyBeam Maxi 155 and SkyBeam Maxi 1G take multi-beam technology to the next level by ensuring the highest availability and performance of a standalone Optical Wireless Solution. The SkyBeam Maxi receiver lens combines Optical Beam Shaping (OBS) with Automatic Power Control (APC), addressing atmospheric changes and building movements. The 1G units provide full gigabit Ethernet transmission over air transmission. They also enable high capacity multimedia interfaces for up to 8 uncompressed video channels + 100MB Ethernet and up to 16 data/audio channels over air transmission. Founder and MD of AMG Systems, Dr. Alan Hayes, says, "There is a requirement in the market for an optical transmission solution that can bridge the gap between two sites that have fibre optic cabling but where installing additional cables is not feasible for some reason. An example of this would be in a Highways environment with a network gap or, just simply, a road crossing where the associated civils works required to install the additional infrastructure would be cost prohibitive. This is why we have developed the SkyBeam series. "SkyBeam Maxi transmits four redundant beams of light that overlap and adjust via Multi-Beam Array Tracking (MBAT) technology. The combination of rotational optics, MBAT and APC results in greater link margins, which translates into improved optical performance. The lens constantly re-adjusts itself to changes in the atmospheric environment or to compensate for movement in, say, a building or a gantry. "We have also developed SkyBeam Mini, which is ideally suited for LAN-to LAN backbone connectivity without the need for time consuming trenching and ground works or costly recurring leased lines. The products connect directly to the fibre network and provide a seamless transmission path". SkyBeam Maxi is available in two versions, 155 and 1G for long distance transmission. 155 can transmit up to 155Mbps over 2 km Line of Sight and 1G can transmit 1.25 Gbps over 1 km line of sight. SkyBeam Mini 1G transmits full duplex 1.25 Gigabit Ethernet up to 500 m Line of Sight, which is considerably faster than common unlicensed RF alternatives. SkyBeam Maxi @ a glance
