Genie CCTV uncorks Genieus hybrid video management console

Genie CCTV's latest Genieus hybrid management console 4.0 is described as a scalable digital CCTV/IP system with Internet and Web integration, offering security, surveillance and monitoring applications.

The Genieus console uses a range of camera devices, including USB webcams, capture cards (for connection to conventional analogue CCTV cameras) and network/IP video servers and cameras. A modular design means users aren't limited to one type of device for the whole system - devices can be mixed, as required, the firm says.

 Motion detection is performed without the need for PIR triggers and external motion

detectors. Genieus can be programmed to record before and after motion events to ensure everything is captured. Meanwhile, digital image storage provides instant access to stored images, allowing footage to be played back while still recording. Also included is a loop play feature to continuously loop the most recent activity.

In terms of digital image storage and management, archiving automatically ensures retention of the right amount of footage, while image integrity checking ensures footage isn't tampered with, and feed management allows precise control over the storage of images per camera feed.

Other features include a dedicated Apple iPhone browser, X10 home automation support and actions on IO triggers. Genieus can switch mains powered devices on events such as motion detection, when a preset sensor value is reached or a virtual tripwire has been crossed. Users can then be alerted via SMS or email and can log in and view live from their iPhone, PDA, mobile phone or any PC.

 The standard web view doesn't require installation of ActiveX controls, running purely with Java. Genieus allows users to view cameras from hotels, airports or any Java-enabled PC worldwide, without requiring user permission to install an ActiveX control. The remote interface provides a full live feed view, with digital zoom options, control of PTZ cameras, multiple simultaneous feeds, and image quality settings to improve performance through bandwidth reduction.
