Milestone Systems, the Danish-based IP video management software developer, has today (February 18th) unveiled an upgraded version of its Xprotect open platform system. The release of Xprotect Corporate 3.1 includes what's described as a significant new version of Milestone's Smart Client user interface, termed 5.0. The additional functionality this provides includes a Sequence Explorer investigation tool and independent playback designed to increase the efficiency of security operations and investigations.
This latest version of Xprotect is aimed at large scale, mission-critical security applications, supporting unlimited cameras, users and sites. Smart Client 5.0 is said to improve the user experience through an enhanced, adaptable interface that focuses on what the company describes as personalised useability and operational efficiency. For instance, the intuitive layout allows users to show only the dialogs preferred or needed for surveillance tasks, or hide them all for a pure full-screen full screen mode of viewing. Users can also opt to remove controls from the interface, displaying only the most relevant ones - making the system interface easier to understand and navigate, especially for new users.
Meanwhile, the Sequence Explorer tool previews tiled video from recorded sequences or time intervals from multiple cameras. It displays a drag-and-throw wall of video preview images in thumbnails with smooth slider scrolling and easy selection of preview images for closer scrutiny of details. The tool is also reported to enable browsing through recorded video sequences to quickly find incidents and evidence.
Smart Client 5.0 additionally provides video overlay playback controls to view individual cameras in live mode. This means operators can play back events on one cameras without losing track of what happens live. This feature works in normal playback mode too, so that operators can see recorded camera images in the view from different times. Overlay buttons can also be added on each camera to facilitate common actions such as triggering events and outputs, using PTZ and other tracking tasks.
Commenting on the launch, Milestone's CTO and co-founder John Blem said the new system "offers innovative new combinations of tools for more rapid response and better security. Independent playback, along with Sequence Explorer, make investigations easier and the adaptable GUI is a game-changer in the surveillance industry".
