New Kinysis Rugged Computer from DAP Technologies Offers Powerful Computing and Customizability in a Compact Tablet Design

Built rugged for demanding environments, DAP's new Kinysis tablet features a modular design for user customization

Measuring only 9 inches wide and weighing just over 3 pounds, the new Kinysis tablet computer from DAP Technologies efficiently uses its compact size by packing powerful features including a fully rugged design, Microsoft® Windows® Embedded Standard operating system, modular technology for easy customization, standard wireless communications, and a hot-swappable battery.

The fully rugged computer meets MIL-STD-810F for environmental engineering considerations, including free-fall drop resistance, immersion, rain, humidity and vibration. Sealed to IP67, DAP's Kinysis can withstand immersion in up to 1 meter of water and emerge with full functionality.

Ideally suited for field-service operations, DAP's Kinysis increases productivity by giving teams the ability to process customer requests and track inventory in the field, access mapping and how-to guides on demand, and communicate with main databases in real-time or collect data and synchronize it later. Batteries in the Kinysis are hot-swappable, with battery life designed to last a full 8-hour shift.

"Whether it's outside standing up to what Mother Nature dishes out, docked inside a service vehicle, or being tossed into a greasy toolbox, DAP's Kinysis rugged computer is built for challenging environments," said Gianni Parisse, general manager of DAP Technologies. "Maintaining the integrity of our customers' data through their daily environmental challenges is our top priority because we understand that data is both mission-critical and essential for operational efficiency."

DAP's Kinysis tablet runs on a Microsoft® Windows® Embedded Standard operating system with an LX800 processor and a high-speed solid-state drive up to 32GB. Customers can tailor the Kinysis tablet by adding custom electronic modules, requiring either a serial interface or USB port, within the sealed expansion bay.

Kinysis screen options include either a colour TFT half-SVGA LCD display with a tactile QWERTY keyboard, or a colour TFT full-sized WVGA LCD display. The anti-glare passive touch screens on both models are scratch- and shock-resistant, and can be operated by either stylus or finger.

The Universal Imager is an all-in-one option that provides a 3-megapixel colour camera with auto-focus and video. It can capture still images in a variety of lighting conditions, and reads 1D/2D barcodes and OCR fonts.

Field computing is expedited via the Kinysis tablet's wireless communications technology with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® standard in each unit, and optional 3G wireless broadband and GPS. Vehicle docking cradles that meet exacting European safety standards are available.
