Panasonic System Solutions Introduces the New Cobra & Viper Series

Panasonic System Solutions introduces a new series of products designed to allow easy integration of analogue CCTV and IP devices utilising IT architecture (Standardised UTP Structured Cabling).

VIPER Series

The new VIPER Series enables video surveillance systems to communicate over UTP structured cabling allowing the integration of analogue CCTV utilising IT architecture. Using popular Cat 5e or higher standard network UTP cable, VIPER products eliminate the need install multiple cable types and runs including coaxial, a cable type that is often susceptible to electronic interference. With VIPER a single UTP cable can carry video, control and power proving cost-effective in systems where additional power supplies are needed.

The VIPER Series includes two chassis’ for control room installation with a diverse range of modular cards for expansion. The bus backplane design of the chassis not only passes PTZ data between modules but also creates an environment for hot-swappable cards to help minimise downtime. At the device end, using a simple balun, the signal is converted into its original control and power inputs and BNC video output terminals for easy connection. Equipped with the appropriate VIPER modular cards a single chassis is capable of handling up to 40 fixed cameras, 36 PTZ & Fixed cameras and 8 Panasonic PTZ cameras respectively.

COBRA Series

The COBRA Series is a range of products designed to IEEE 802.3af Standards which provide power for PoE (Power over Ethernet) and non-PoE enabled IP devices such as Network cameras, VOIP telephones, wireless access points and other IP PoE enabled devices to significantly reduce the cost of installing power in remote locations.

Incorporating midspan technology, COBRA products supply power into cost effective Category 5e or higher network cable whilst passing data through from an Ethernet switch. The power required by the device is contained within its PoE signature and is automatically requested when the device is attached to a live network. Using a single COBRA chassis with the appropriate modular cards installed can provide power for up to 24 PoE enabled devices.

Unlike many endspan switches which perform both the switching of IP data and supply of power, COBRA products are compatible with both 10/100 Base-T and 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet Switches.

From an infrastructure and maintenance perspective VIPER and COBRA products contribute towards Panasonic’s eco-ideas initiative as they make efficient use of standardised UTP cables and reduce overall cable overhead for a system. With the new series Panasonic has added further value to its System Solutions portfolio.
