Qatar - 2nd Civil Defence Expo - November 3rd - 5th

The 2nd Civil Defence Exhibition, which builds on the success of the 2007 conference and exhibition, is set up to introduce this fast growing country to the products and services required to improve fire safety across all sectors, when it host the event on November 3-5, 2009.

Brig General Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director of the Prevention Department of Qatar Civil Defence and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Civil Defence Conference 2009, said the three-day will be attended by many officials from Arab and other foreign countries, and it will include many exhibits about security and safety.

He said the main purpose of the 2nd Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference 2009 is to confirm that the State of Qatar seeks to provide safety in all enterprises, whether state government or the private sector at all levels.

He stressed the need for cooperation between the private sector and governmental sector to achieve the best safety methods.

"Leading international companies are convening at Doha Exhibition for showcasing latest products. The product to be displayed at the event include fire protection, search and rescue instruments, emergency and hospital equipment, prevention from environmental contamination and a lot more," he said. Al Suwaidi praised Dar Al Sharq, event organiser of the 1st Civil Defence Exhibition in 2007 and the collaboration between the Department of Civil Defence and Dar Al Sharq for its efforts to ensure the success of the exhibition for the second time since it was convened in 2007.

"Based on the construction boom that Qatar is currently witnessing and a large number of companies implementing several mega projects, which were accompanied by a major development in the safety, these companies must be acquainted with new products in safety inline to the guidelines of the Ministry of the Interior and Civil Defence Department in particular," said Brig General Al Suwaidi.

He added that due to the large turnout by the companies during the first Civil Defence Exhibition 2007, the Ministry of Interior, under the guidance of H E Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani, Minister of State for Interior Affairs, decided to organise the second exhibition for the benefit of the companies and the need for access to the latest technologies with respect to safety which is considered the basic need of the State.

Brig. General Al Suwaidi said the State on the verge of large-scale projects which require the presence of modern systems and these devices must be known to the companies, whether local or global, especially the local companies represents agencies for companies in America, Asia and Europe.

He added that Qatar tracks the latest safety systems, which should be available in all buildings.

He said this exhibition is an opportunity for communication among the consulting and management offices to acquaint with modern systems, where workshops for consultative offices will be held in conjunction with the exhibition, to identify the code of safety and new products of companies. It is also a great opportunity for Civil Defence engineers to meet civil defence engineers worldwide and engineers in consultative offices in Qatar. He further pointed out that the Organising Committee will held a press conference on October 6, highlighting the main functions scheduled at the event, list of participating companies and topics that will be discussed at the workshops which will be held on the sideline of expo.

Al Suwaidi disclosed that the number of participating companies has almost doubled as compared to the previous event despite the current global financial crisis, thanks to successful promotion by organisers. The exhibition area is 15,000 metre squares. Abdulatif Al Mahmoud, General Manager of Dar Al Shaq, organiser of the event, expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Interior for supporting the function and providing the Organising Committee with necessary facilities.

The first exhibition organised by Dar Al Sharq in 2007 has resulted with the signing of deals for 80 percent of the participating companies and transactions worth more than USD100m took place. More than 500 local and international participants and 2500 visitor also attended the Exhibition.

The Qatar Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference 2009 is the second event of its kind in Qatar after the great success of the 1st Civil Defence Exhibition held in September 2007, with an area of 15,000 sqm size.

This year's theme, Making our World Safe and Secure, will highlight the importance of safety management through workshops, interactive sessions and talks by speakers from top safety and engineering professionals from around the world. The exhibition will showcase modern technologies and innovation in crisis and emergency management, emergency preparedness, contingency planning and civil protection.

Dar Al Sharq, Qatar's premier media gateway, is the event's main organizer.
